Emma’s preschool class had their Christmas presentation for us parents and did they do a great job! Besides the Christmas show the class had a Christmas play for the class parents. Emma had the honor of being Mary. How cute!! This school does such a good job! This was a short show for us parents in the daytime. As the others, it was really cool! Emma had her first trip to the dentist which resulted in her watching Mom getting her teeth cleaned and a short look into Emma’s mouth. It was really to get her used to the atmosphere so that in the future she wouldn’t be afraid. I was in the other room getting my teeth cleaned too and heard what they were saying. Emma is following in her Daddy’s footsteps and is becoming quite the videogame player. She really enjoys playing her wii, especially her Disney princess game. Of course, she insists that Daddy play along with her so we enjoy many hours of wii together!

Halloween 2010 Halloween is always an awesome time here at our household and this year was great! Emma was Cinderella this year and had her preschool party/costume parade which was very cute. And, of course, we had our annual Halloween party. This year, Emma understands better what the party is all about and she really enjoyed the awesome decorations and lights that we put up in the garage. She loved seeing her cousins all dressed up and she enjoyed taking pictures with our neighbor Carol who was dressed as a witch! Emma still loves(and hates) witches! In fact, Auntie Kathy left her witch hat here and Emma wore it during the days afterwards! Emma is really starting to grow up and is developing a headstrong attitude. She knows what she wants and it is difficult to get her to change her mind. This can be good at times and also frustrating! But, it is better than being wishy washy… I would rather her be the leader of the group than a meek follower! We shall see what the future has in store but so far she is definitely more of a leader!! [dmalbum path="/wp-content/uploads/dm-albums/Halloween 2010/"/]

It was much fun at Lena’s house for her Christmas party. Emma was all over the place playing with all of her older cousins! She really loves Tina and kept her busy. She is friendly with everyone and even smiles at Uncle Vince and Uncle Fred! Of course Emma was spoiled like crazy by her aunts with all kinds of Christmas presents, especially tons of clothes. And, the food was, as usual, excellent!!!! Emma was really excited when her cousin Lauren(Lala) came to stay here from Florida. Emma really kept lala busy and took the heat off me and Mommie! She really likes lala and always looks for her in “her room”after she leaves here. Things really got good for Emma when she had a sleepover with Lauren and Kaylen(Kiki). She had 2 older cousins to keep her busy and play with! This was a night that she stayed up late and had fun doing it! To top off all this fun was Christmas! Emma got to see the rest of her cousins, Aunt Kim and Aunt Kathy(Katty Kathy) and Nonnie & Poppie. In the morning she actually began opening presents. This is the first year that she finally got it and unwrapped presents–with our help. Later, she played with her cousins Taylor and Shannon in the basement as well as Kiki and Lala. It was a Merry Christmas!

Emma has been experimenting with some bad behaviors lately and I have a feeling that she has been learning them at school–from the other kids! The first thing she has been doing is when she gets mad at me. She has decided to start saying, “Bad Daddy” or “You’re a bad Daddy.” It gets under my nerves sometimes and I don’t want to over-react so I just tell her that I am not a bad Daddy but am looking out for her–not always in those exact words! Writing this right now makes me laugh when I think of her saying this but hopefully it is a phase–a stinker phase! The bad behaviors just keep getting worse here. The next one is when she sticks her tongue out at us, again, when she gets mad at us. Thinking about it now makes me laugh but when she does it I am hardly laughing. She gets a bratty look on her face and sticks her tongue out as if it is a sword or spear jabbing us. I know for sure that she learned this at school as she has mentioned a name of a classmate when we asked where she learned it. Again, we will try to get her to stop this but I am not sure if the threat of having her tongue removed will work(Right Melissa?)…LOL! The third bad behavior, the worst and much less frequent(Thank Goodness) is spitting. There are the occasional experimental spits where she just does it to see how good she can do it and then there is the mad spitting. Timeouts are swift and immediate when this occurs and she only does it when she is really upset which is not very often. She knows that we dislike this very much and she usually downshifts to the sticking out of the tongue which I just described….. On a much brighter note, Emma had her 1st school Christmas performance and it was great! The weather was absolutely perfect with a nice and steady snowfall. All the kids and parents were there and the kids all sang great! They acted out the nativity scene and Emma was a Sheppard. After the performance Emma got to see Santa Claus! While waiting in line she got a little wild with the other kids since the line was long and they began getting impatient. When she got in to see him she did really well! She sat on his lap and talked to him and did not act scared like last year. After Santa, We went to the gym where refreshments were served and the kids ran all over the place. Emma had fun with her friends, especially Claire and Olivia. We took pictures of them as well as Emma’s friend Brooke.
Emma suffered her first burn and it was a small one thank goodness! She was playing with the ceramic halloween pumpkin candle holder while a small candle was indide. This is after we continually told her not to play with this because it is hot. Well, the little stinker took the top off and touched the silver metal part underneath and…Ouch!!! She cried a little bit but once I put medicine on it and a Bandaid(A Princess Bandaid) all was OK. And, she could not help but talk about her booboo any chance she got and to any person she could find! Emma’s class had their halloween party at school. Prior to the party the Pastor had a halloween devotion using a pumpkin that he carved for them as the focal point. The kids then had a parade in the gym so that all of the parents could see them in their costumes. They were so cute and so proud of their costumes!!! Pictures are attached. Emma also went trick or treating with us and this was the year that she really got what trick or treating means–candy!!!! She actually said trick or treat to the people who all adored her and her costume. She was very proud of her candy rewards for her effort! Emma has developed into a little miss prissy now…. She always looks in the mirror and is fashion conscious. She loves all her shoes, and her Mom’s shoes, as well as all her Princess dresses. She is very particular in her likes and dislikes, particularly her hair ties and clips. She only likes her hair with hair clips/ties on the sides, none in the back or on top. And, Daddy is never in the mood to try to change her mind early in the morning before school so whatever works is good for me!!
Emma has this new thing where she likes when I rub her back and/or her belly when bringing her for a nap or for bedtime when Mommie isn’t home. She makes sure that I know that she wants me to do so by saying, “Daddy rub my back” or “Daddy rub my belly.” This is a great thing because it cuts down the time it takes for her to fall asleep-the anti-sleeper that she is! Well, Nonnie has come to stay here for awhile and Emma–and I–love it! Emma gets a new playmate for awhile and I get a bit of freedom too! A bad thing that came of Nonnie being here is the new bad word that Emma learned from her! Nonnie accidentally spilled something and spontaneously uttered, “Oh Sh*t!” Well, it only took a few minutes before Emma said that same phrase! LOL It was funny to hear that come from her little mouth but it was also a bit disturbing. Obviously, I told Nonnie how I felt about her being the first–and obviously not the last– person to teach Emma a bad word. Melissa was out of town a couple nights and it was, as usual a bit stressful for Emma and I. Unlike when she was a baby and just cried and cried, Emma cries and says, “I want my Mommy!” Well, it sucks when this happens and it is the price we pay for the job Melissa has……Just remember, the grass is always greener on the other side! Emma loves to watch Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Enchanted but both likes and dislikes the “Mean Old Lady” and “The Icky Witch!” She often talks about them after watching the movies that have them but still wants to watch them even more! It is very funny! Besides the mean old lady and the icky witch, another way to get Emma going is to take her to The Halloween Store! Nonnie and I took her to the Halloween stores in the area and Emma really was intrigued by the motorized monsters, especially the cackling witch that stirs her pot! Some other customers got a kick out of watching her go up to the witch and step on the button to activate it then walk backwards…over and over…. She is like her daddy with her love(and fear) of being scared! BOO!

It has been about 5 months since Emma has seen my Uncle Jeff and his wife Jo. The last time she saw them she loved Jo but wouldn’t go by Jeff although she did start to play Peek with him from a distance. They came over and spent a nice evening with us recently. At first Emma was leery of Jeff and, of course, was immediately receptive to Jo. It didn’t take long however, for her to warm up to Jeff. At first, while Melissa & I talked with Jeff, Emma kidnapped Jo and took her into the living room to play. After awhile we all ended up in the same room at which time Emma kidnapped Jeff and brought him into the other room. Well, we were all amazed and Jeff was completely taken by this. They played–Jeff has always been great with kids, in fact if I ever get my book written he will have a section all to himself as he was a significant role model to me growing up–and it was a great night. Emma is really getting to be sociable now and Jeff made a point to let me know too. A shame that we are not able to have these more often. For the last couple weeks Emma has been waking me up by saying, “Wake up Daddy its Christmastime!” She has really started to understand Christmas and Santa Claus lots more. This month has been a whirlwind of Christmas parties and Emma is loving them all! She has been able to see all of her cousins–Too many to name– her Grandma and Grandpa, Her G-ma, and Great-Bucia, her aunts and uncles. She really had fun with her cousins and these parties are turning into lots of fun with all the kids! Well, Santa was here! WEEEEE! Lots of presents! Emma is starting to open presents but isn’t at the stage where she will tear them open with vigor yet. Next year she will be tearing them up I am sure. She got lots of cool toys. She especially liked the kitchen set that took 2 hours to assemble and has a million pieces that she got from Auntie Mary. She liked her Tinkerbell table, Cinderella movie, her Snow White, Ariel and Jasmine dolls, the five cool little plastic cars with faces, the All in one pajamas with the duck feet, as well as a bunch of others! I think her 3 favorites were the kitchen, the princess dolls and the 5 little cars. We had my family here for Christmas and Emma enjoyed her cousins and especially enjoyed her Nonnie being here for a couple days. Of course she wore Nonnie out and still won’t sit on Poppie’s lap, voluntarily at least. Emma got a Viewmaster–I always loved this as a kid!–and likes to look into it. It is hilarious when she tells us that there are Aminals in there. She says animals as aminals and it is so cute to hear! Ahhh, the little things that we forget unless we write them in a blog! Ho! Ho! Ho! [album: http://www.memoirsofastayathomedad.com/wp-content/plugins/dm-albums/dm-albums.php?currdir=/wp-content/uploads/dm-albums/Christmas 2008/]

When something goes wrong, even something very minor, Emma has recently been saying, “Ohhhh Nooooooo…..” It is funny how she says it. She says it in an exaggerated manner as if she is overly concerned–too funny! We went to 3 Christmas parties over the weekend, all on Saturday. The first party was a company family Christmas event that featured many attractions such as elves that painted faces and made cool candy cane balloons, crafts, karaoke, a train ride, and, of course, Santa Claus! Now, last year Emma was deathly afraid of Santa and cried when Melissa brought her by him. This year Emma had several things going for her. She was there with her friend Alicia, she was a year older with more exposure to Santa at the mall and on TV, and, most importantly, Santa was giving out candy canes! Oh, those sugary sweet candy canes that Emma loves! She was actually trying to go by him ahead of other kids while watching those candy canes! Emma watched Alicia sit on his lap and then it was her turn. I was waiting for her to turn tail at the last second or to snatch a candy cane and take off but she didn’t. She sat on his lap and actually talked to him telling him that she wanted toys. She took a good picture too, don’t you think? Emma also went on her first train ride with Alicia, another first. She has always shied away from the trains but was on a roll and in the zone this day with nothing stopping her! We got some good pics and vids of this too. The next party was thrown by Alicia’s Grandpa. Emma is afraid of Bob ever since he just picked her up in his loud way when she was very little. Well, he tried to talk to her again and sat by her. She sat there with fear in her eyes until one of the other guests let us know what was going on. Besides Bob, Emma had fun playing with the other girls. The last party of the day was at Emma’s aunt Lena’s. Emma had a blast playing with her cousins Gianna and Sylvana. She played with all the “big girls” and little Bella too. Of course, Emma didn’t eat hardly anything as she always does when we go to parties. Emma received lots of presents at the party and it looks like Santa has his work cut out for him in getting different gifts on Christmas day. Emma enjoyed seeing her Aunts, Mary, Lena and Sunday. She didn’t really care for uncle Freddie as she kept saying, “I’m afraid of uncle Freddie.” Well, we didn’t leave until about 11pm. The little stinker was wound up and stayed up the whole drive home. It was a long but fun day! Speaking of Choo Choo trains, I brought out our old battery operated train and set it up. Emma loved it. We played with it for hours until it died. Melissa picked up a new one and we played with it the next day. Emma likes to put balls in front of the train and watch it push them around the tracks. Of course, I enjoy it and feel like getting out my old electric trains. Maybe some day we will set something up in the basement.

Just had to add this clever take on “Twas a night Before Christmas” as the politically correctness has gotten way out of hand… *Twas the month before Christmas *When all through our land, *Not a Christian was praying *Nor taking a stand. *See the PC Police had taken away, *The reason for Christmas – no one could say. *The children were told by their schools not to sing, *About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things. *It might hurt people’s feelings, the teachers would say * December 25th is just a ‘ Holiday ‘. *Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit *Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it! *CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod *Something was changing, something quite odd! *Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa *In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda. *As Targets were hanging their trees upside down * At Lowe’s the word Christmas – was no where to be found. *At K-Mart and Staples and Penny’s and Sears *You won’t hear the word Christmas; it won’t touch your ears. *Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty *Are words that were used to intimidate me. *Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen *On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton ! *At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter *To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter. *And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith * Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace *The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded *The reason for the season, stopped before it started. *So as you celebrate ‘Winter Break’ under your ‘Dream Tree’ *Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me. *Choose your words carefully, choose what you say *Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS, not Happy Holiday! Please, all Christians join together and wish everyone you meet during the holidays a MERRY CHRISTMAS Christ is ‘The Reason’ for the Christ=mas Season!

Thanksgiving was busy, busy, busy! Emma got to go to Grandma & grandpa’s and played with her cousins Lauren & Nicole. She really loves Lauren since she is younger than Nicole. I think Lauren is about 8 or 9 and Nicole is 13. Emma kept Nicole busy that is for sure! Emma also got to “play” with her 95(I think) year old Bucia. Funny how she has always been attracted to her…Maybe because she sees her as somewhat of a child? Bucia loved it too! Watching her, she looks at Emma with a wonderment that rivals my own! Even at that age, she seems to be reliving her own childhood. After Grandma & Grandpa’s we went to Auntie Mary’s house where Emma got her second wind–after sleeping 1/2 hour in the car. Emma got to play with everyone after acting shy for the 1st 15 minutes. She especially liked her older cousins Gianna and Sylvana. She spent lots of time with them which allowed us to socialize with the adults which we rarely are able to do nowadays. Emma like the little(tiny) dog Fred. little did she know that the little bugger was trying to bite her and was grabbing her pants when all she was doing was laughing her butt off! It was very nice as we were able to talk with my sisters, brothers in law, nieces and nephews much more than we have been able to do since meeting them all in March. Emma eventually insisted on sitting on Auntie Lena’s lap for a long time and really enjoyed the brownies she gave her! Lots of brownies! LOL Was truly a Happy Thanksgiving that we are grateful for! We got our first significant snowfall and boy did Emma want to get out there in it! After taking what seemed like forever in getting both of us dressed properly we finally trekked out into the tundra… Watching her walk reminded me of the little boy that could hardly walk in the movie A Christmas Story. She liked walking in the shallow snow closer to the house. When I got her out to the grass she got a bit scared when the snow went over her feet! LOL After reassuring her that she wouldn’t sink or anything she held my hand and we ventured out to the front yard. She liked the driveway as it was shallow there and she liked walking in my footsteps behind me. We ended up in the back on the patio where she wanted to run, run, run! I decided to oblige her in the hopes of wearing her out so she would take her nap easier. Boy was I wrong about that! She is a machine that avoids sleep at all cost! Mostly at our cost! LOL Emma’s new thing is to tell us that she doesn’t need us. She sure wants us to know just how independent she is becoming. For instance, if she sleeps all the way through the night in her own room–she has been coming in our bed at night(see abonabo below)– she will tell me/us “I slept in my room all by myself, I don’t need you Daddy/Momma, I’m a big girl” Way too cute!! She does this for other things such as eating with forks/spoons, and brushing her teeth. Boy is she growing up fast! Since it is Christmas time now we decided to pull out or Christmas DVDs and see if Emma likes them. You know the ones, my favorites as a kid: Rudolph The Red-Nosed reindeer, Frosty The Snowman, Santa Claus is Coming To [...]
