Stay At Home Dad Thoughts While Holding Emma’s Hand While Walking to School, Emma Does My Hair

Everyday, when I bring Emma to school, I park the car and actually get out of the car and walk her to the door–many lazy and overweight parents out there!. I have been doing so through the winter too, good thing we have had such a mild one! While we walk, Emma always holds my hand. This also applies to when I pick her up after school. There are several other stay at home dads and stay at home moms that do the same. We have not given in, rebels as we are,  to the school’s request that all kids take the bus. I recently got to thinking, as I often do, about holding my daughter’s little hand. I …Read more [.....]

Eye Dr Appt and Dentist Appt.

Emma has always been reluctant to warm up to strangers rapidly, unless they are younger, big girls. So, when we made appointments to see the dentist and the eye doctor for the first real exams that she would have, I was apprehensive. The dentist was relatively easy for me since I was in for a cleaning and was already being attended to when Emma and Melissa went into the room next to me. I heard everything that went on on Emma sure gave the hygenist a run for her money. Boy, was this woman patient! Emma would start to let her work and then stop her at the last minute. this bickering went back …Read more [.....]

Whew! We Dodged a Bullet!

Well, last night we surely got lucky! We had to call the Poison Control Hotline two times and were up very late. Their number is 1-800-222-1222. Emma has had a cold off and on for almost two weeks, us too. She had been coughing badly ever since the weekend-3, yes 3 parties on Saturday?.. Before bed we gave her a Triaminic grape flavored nighttime cough and cold strip. this was about 930. I thinking that i should put the medicine in the cabinet but figured that I would be coming up soon and Emma was trustworthy-I had told her before that she should never take an medicine without us knowing …Read more [.....]

The Big Boys! “Can I Tell You Something?” Privacy While in Bathroom..

Emma has become good friends with the boys down the street. There are 2 boys, Evan and Ethan, that are a year older than her as well as a boy, Nathan, that is a year younger then her. They live down the street and love to come to our cul-de-sac where they can ride their bikes, their motorized cars, and scooters with her. It is so funny to watch them playing because Emma leads the way with the puppy dog boys following along. When they are at their house and Emma is in our front yard, they are constantly yelling messages back and forth. The little guy, Nathan, is the most vocal and aggressive about …Read more [.....]

First Experience With Bullying?

I can remember the kids who used to bully me around like it was yesterday. Of course, after we all grew up(the bullies all seemed to stop growing around 8th grade, ha!) and I became a police officer the tables turned for good. Anyway, today, like most days, Emma kept asking when we were going to leave for school–did this for 2 hours. When we finally went, she was very excited. As usual she washed her hands and kissed me goodbye and then ran over to the board where all the kids write their names. Emma was there with one of the boys and she began excitedly writing her name when 3 other girls, Hannah, …Read more [.....]

Emma with Flu for a week, getting so good at Wii, Little, not Yittle, Wisconsin not consin

Emma was home sick all week and it was rough. It is times like these that I can really understand how much I appreciate the free time, little as it is, that I have when she is in preschool. She kept me busy and handled it really well. She watched TV, played with her dolls &  played her Wii. She is really getting very good at the Wii and I am impressed! Emma recently changed the way she says a couple words. Gone are the cute ways that she said them…She no longer says Yiddle but says little and she no longer calls Wisconsin Consin. So cute to see her growing up! …Read more [.....]

Happy Halloween! Headstrong Little Stinker…

Halloween 2010 Halloween is always an awesome time here at our household and this year was great! Emma was Cinderella this year and  had her preschool party/costume parade which was very cute. And, of course, we had our annual Halloween party. This year, Emma understands better what the party is all about and she really enjoyed the awesome decorations and lights that we put up in the garage. She loved seeing her cousins all dressed up and she enjoyed taking pictures with our neighbor Carol who was dressed as a witch! Emma still loves(and hates) witches! In fact, Auntie Kathy left her …Read more [.....]

1st Day of School! Coloring Like Crazy! Company Day At Great America!

What a difference a year makes! Emma couldn’t wait to go back to school! She got up and asked if she was going to school but I had to tell her that she will be going in the afternoons this year. I had none of the nervousness that I felt last year when she had her 1st day of school. None of the uneasiness that I felt as I drove her there and virtually none( maybe just a tad) of the guilt as I left her there….And, she was excited to be going back to school since she has the same teacher and is familiar with it. A plus this year is that she is in the afternoon class which means that we …Read more [.....]

Mrs Koshmann visits! “Daddy, You Walk Like This” “I’m Telling You” Snuggler in The Morning

Well, it is that time of year! Summer is ending and preschool is about to start! Just like last year Mrs. Koschmann came to the house to visit and meet with Emma. Unlike last year Emma knows her very well and talked to her from the start! :) It is also different than last year because we know what to expect and feel extremely confident and secure in knowing that Emma will have her for her teacher this year. I remember the nervous trepidation I felt last year and am grateful that this year will be easy! One of Emma’s new sayings is one that makes fun of her Daddy. Out of the blue Emma said to …Read more [.....]

Goal of Exercise, Wisconsin With Cousins,Emma Went Tubing! Coloring Addict, Knows Her Letters!

Throughout my life I exercised regularly for a variety of different reasons. When I was a kid I did it for self defense and self esteem. When I got older it was for looks and self esteem. When I became a Police Officer it was out of a sense of duty to keep myself in the best position possible to have the edge over the bad guys. Now, while I was recently looking at Emma I realized that my outlook on exercise has changed to become a duty and obligation to her so that I am around(God willing) for her for a very long time. I want to be able to fight off the hordes of boys/men that are sure to be …Read more [.....]
