Emma’s 1st day of preschool was an extremely nerve wracking ordeal for me. I didn’t sleep well all night due to being so nervous about leaving Emma in strangers’ care. I also worried that she wouldn’t want me to leave and would cry etc….
Well, I acted all excited in the morning in an effort to hide my uneasiness as well as to get her excited about it. She was Ok with it except for the getting up earlier than normal.
My nervousness was at a level equal to that of when I had to give a speech in school when we arrived. We got there and I hung up her backpack on her hanger and went over her schoolhouse picture that designates her hanger and mailbox. When it was time to go, I gave her a hug and told her that I loved her and to have fun. She smiled and said, “OK Daddy” and went over by the teachers with the other kids.
The weird and uneasy feeling that I had as I walked out was very strong. I stayed for awhile and watched through the 2 way window and then left the building. As I got into my car and drove away I had an empty feeling like I lost someone or something–maybe her “childhood?”
Anyway, when I got home it was strange to not have her here. I have to say that the feeling went away after awhile and it was nice to have some quiet time in the house.
Picking her up was really cool as she yelled, “Daddy Daddy!” when I walked in the room to pick her up. She really had to brag about the things she did and was very proud to show me that she is a big girl! My baby is growing up! 🙂
Emma has a couple unique ways of pronouncing several names. She calls her cousins Maria as Meera and calls Sleeping Beauty(Her favorite Princess) Sleeping Booty. Too funny!
Emma had fun at her cousin Vinnie’s birthday party! She played with the other kids, the other Moms and got to hit a Pinata and scramble for the candy that fell out!
Some words of note: Emma calls her older cousins Meera instead of maria and she calls Sleeping Beauty Sleeping Booty. The older girls on the Italian side get a kick out of this one! LOL
